Metalhead Parents: How to Raise Your Kid on Metal

The Fucking Serious Metal Guide.

When it comes to early childhood enrichment, you can never start too soon! In other words: Doom riffs in the womb instead of singing bowls in the living room. Learn everything you need to know to get it right, in a breezy three-minute read.

1. The Cradle of Madness: The Right Music from Day One

Forget Bach and Mozart. Your kid needs Tony Iommi.

Let your baby discover the beauty of a proper doom riff while they’re still in the womb. By the time they’re born, Children of the Grave should be at the top of the playlist. And no, that’s no coincidence.

Pro tip: Bluetooth baby monitors are perfect for late-night Babymetal sessions.

2. Parenting Through Lyrics

Forget parenting guides. All the wisdom your child needs is in Metal lyrics. For example:

  • “Never say die!” (Black Sabbath)
  • “You can’t kill the Metal!” (Tenacious D)
  • "If you're not into Metal, you are not my friend!" (Manowar)
  • "For the glory of Dundee!" (Angus McFife)

Just read them aloud as a bedtime story. It works.

3. Dress Code for the Little Ones

Metal isn’t a style. It’s a way of life. And it starts with the onesie. Essentials:

  • Baby onesie with “Born to Be Wild” (classic)
  • Beanie with a skull or the Motörhead logo (more classic)
  • Mini battle jacket, sewn yourself from old band T-shirts (most classic)

But beware: showing up at the playground in a Slayer onesie is bound to spark conversations with other parents. But it’ll also earn you respect from the cooler kids at daycare.

4. Daycare, but with blast beats

Sooner or later, the time comes: outside childcare. Choose your daycare wisely.

  • Are there instruments? A drum kit is a must. (If necessary, a collection of buckets in the adjacent sandbox and wooden spoons from the kitchen will do.)
  • Do they play “All the Little Ducklings” in Drop-C for the kids?
  • Are the kids allowed to scream without someone calling child protective services?

If not: start your own Metal daycare. Call it “Tiny Terrors”, “Growl Gang,” or simply “The Gates of Hell”.

5. Metal Outings: Start Early If You Want to Be a Festival Hero

Family vacation? Sure:

  • Wacken (with ear protection for the little ones)
  • Summer Breeze (with a handcart)
  • Local doom festival in the community hall (with apple spritzer)

Rule #1: Let your kid headbang on your shoulders.
Rule #2: Please don’t show videos of this to child protective services.

6. School and Parenting: Between Math and Metallica

When teachers complain that your child would rather practice riffs than play the flute, take it as a compliment.

Teach your child:

  • That “Enter Sandman” is also a lullaby
  • That Metal >= math
  • That individuality is more important than conformity
  • That boredom at school can be overcome with an air guitar solo

8. Lullabies from Hell (But with Feeling)

Forget “Sleep, Baby, Sleep”.
“Planet Caravan” is much better suited — hypnotic, gentle, and with enough reverb to chase away nightmares.
And who needs a mobile above the crib when you have a slowly spinning disco ball covered in bats?

Bottom line: Kids who Make Noise = Kids with Character

Metal doesn’t make you aggressive. It makes you honest, loud, and free. And that’s exactly what you want for your kid, right?

So: Raise your child on Metal. And don’t forget: When they eventually come home and proudly show you their first self-drawn band logo (regardless of which band it is), then you’ve done everything right.

Coming Up: The Teenage Years — When Your Kid Suddenly Becomes an Emo

The inevitable chapter.
Stay calm.
Show understanding.
And remember: You, too, were once convinced that “Nu Metal” was the future.
It’ll pass. Or it’ll get worse.
